From Abraham to David

The Nativity of the Messiah

¹⁸The birth of Jesus Christ came about in this way: After his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant from the Holy Spirit.[#1:18 Or betrothed; #1:18 Mt 12:46; Lk 1:27,35]

²²Now all this took place to fulfil what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:

which is translated ‘God is with us.’

²⁴When Joseph woke up, he did as the Lord’s angel had commanded him. He married her[#1:24 Mt 1:6; 13:49; Lk 1:1; 19:32; Jd 5]
