Receiving Salvation

¹Therefore we should be more attentive to what we have heard, lest we drift away.[#Pr 3:21]

²For if the word spoken by angels was true, and every sin and disobedience received a just recompense,[#Dt 33:12; Ac 7:53; Gal 3:19; #Heb 10:28]

³how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,[#Lk 1:2; Heb 1:2; 1Jn 1:1]

⁴God also bearing witness, with signs and wonders and various miracles, and with gifts of the Holy Spirit, distributed according to His own will.[#Ro 12:3–6; 1Co 12:4; Eph 1:5]

Salvation Through the Son

⁵For it was not to the angels that He has subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking.[#Heb 6:5]

⁶But someone in a certain place testified, saying:[#Heb 4:4]

“What is man that You are mindful of him,

or the son of man that You care for him?

⁷You made him a little lower than the angels;

You crowned him with glory and honor,

and set him over the works of Your hands.

⁸You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”[#Ps 8:4–6; 1Co 15:27; #2:6–8 Ps 8:4–6.]

For in subjecting all things under him, He left nothing that is not subjected to him. Yet now we do not see all things subject to him.

⁹But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels to suffer death, crowned with glory and honor, so that He, by the grace of God, should experience death for everyone.[#Ac 2:33; #Jn 3:16]

¹⁰For it was fitting for Him, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the author of their salvation complete through suffering.[#Ro 11:36; #Lk 24:26, 46]

¹¹For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of One. For this reason He is not ashamed to call them brothers,[#Heb 10:10; #Mt 25:40]

¹²saying:

“I will declare Your name to My brothers;

in the midst of the congregation I will sing praise to You.”

¹³And again:

“I will put My trust in Him.”

And again:

“Behold, I and the children whom God has given Me.”

¹⁴So then, as the children share in flesh and blood, He likewise took part in these, so that through death He might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil,[#Jn 1:14; #2Ti 1:10; #Ge 3:15]

¹⁵and deliver those who through fear of death were throughout their lives subject to bondage.[#Ro 8:15; 2Ti 1:7]

¹⁶For surely He does not help the angels, but He helps the seed of Abraham.

¹⁷Therefore, in all things it was necessary for Him to be made like His brothers, so that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in the things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.[#Da 9:24]

¹⁸For since He Himself suffered while being tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.
