Isaiah 61

LXI

¹The Spirit of the Lord Jehovah is upon me;

Because Jehovah hath anointed me to publish glad tidings unto the afflicted;

He hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives,

And the opening of the prison to them that are bound.

²To proclain the acceptable year of Jehovah ,

And the day of vengeance of our God:

To comfort all that mourn;

³To appoint unto the mourners of Zion,

Yea, to give unto them ornament instead of ashes,

The oil of gladness instead of sorrow,

The garment of praise instead of a desponding spirit;

That they might be called: The Trees of Righteousness,

The Plantation of Jehovah , that He might be glorified.

⁴And they shall build up the old ruins,

They shall raise up the former desolations;

And shall repair the cities laid waste,

The desolations of many generations.

⁵And strangers shall stand up and feed your flocks;

And the sons of the alien shall be your husbandmen and vine-dressers.

⁶But ye shall be named, The Priests of Jehovah ;

Men shall call you, The Ministers of our God:

Ye shall eat the riches of the nations,

And in their glory shall ye make your boast.

⁷Instead of your shame, ye shall have double;

And instead of reproach, they shall rejoice in their portion;

For in their land a double share shall they inherit:

Everlasting joy shall be unto them.

⁸For I Jehovah love jugment;

I hate rapine and iniquity;

And I will give them the reward of their work with faithfulness;

And I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

⁹And their seed shall be known among the nations,

And their offspring in the midst of the people:

All that see them shall acknowledge them,

That they are a seed which Jehovah hath blessed.

¹⁰I will greatly rejoice in Jehovah ,

My soul shall be joyful in my God;

For he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation;

He hath covered me with the mantle of righteousness,

As a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments,

And as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

¹¹For as the earth bringeth forth her bud;

And as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth:

So shall the Lord Jehovah cause righteousness and praise to spring forth,

In the presence of all the nations.
