Psalms 4

Psalms 4

A Night Prayer

1Answer me when I call,

God, who vindicates me. ,

You freed me from affliction;

be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

2How long, exalted ones, will my honour be insulted?[#4:2 Lit long, sons of a man; #4:2 Ps 69:7–10,19–20]

How long will you love what is worthless

and pursue a lie? Selah

3Know that the Lord has set apart

the faithful for himself;

the Lord will hear when I call to him.

4Be angry and do not sin;[#4:4 Or Tremble; #4:4 Eph 4:26]

reflect in your heart while on your bed and be silent. Selah

5Offer sacrifices in righteousness ,[#4:5 Or Offer right sacrifices; #4:5 Dt 33:19; Ps 51:19]

and trust in the Lord .

6Many are asking, ‘Who can show us anything good? ’

Let the light of your face shine on us, Lord .

7You have put more joy in my heart

than they have when their grain and new wine abound.

8I will both lie down and sleep in peace,[#4:8 Ps 3:5]

for you alone, Lord , make me live in safety.
