Put On the New Man

¹Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

²Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.[#3:2 Or Be intent on]

³For you died and your life has been hidden with Christ in God.

⁴When Christ, who is our life, is manifested, then you also will be manifested with Him in glory.

⁵Therefore, consider the members of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.[#3:5 Or put to death the members which are upon the earth]

⁸But now you also, lay them all aside: wrath, anger, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

¹⁰and have put on the new man who is being renewed to a full knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—[#3:10 Lit renovated]

¹¹a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, and freeman, but Christ is all and in all.[#3:11 Those who were not Greeks, either by birth or by culture]

¹²So, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience;[#3:12 Forbearance toward others]

¹³bearing with one another, and graciously forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone, just as the Lord graciously forgave you, so also should you.

¹⁷And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Family and Work

¹⁸Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

¹⁹Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.

²⁰Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is pleasing to the Lord.[#3:20 Lit in]

²¹Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.

²²Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but with integrity of heart, fearing the Lord.[#3:22 Or on earth; #3:22 Lit simplicity]
