Psalm 104

Psalm 104

The Glory of Yahweh Endures Forever

1Bless Yahweh, O my soul!

O Yahweh my God, You are very great;

You are clothed with splendor and majesty,

2Wrapping Yourself with light as with a cloak,

Stretching out the heavens like a tent curtain.

3He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;[#104:3 Lit The one who]

He sets up the clouds to be His chariot;

He walks upon the wings of the wind;

4He makes His angels the winds,[#104:4 Lit Who; #104:4 Or messengers]

His ministers flaming fire.

5¶He founded the earth upon its place,

So that it will not shake forever and ever.

6You covered it with the deep as with a garment;

The waters were standing above the mountains.

7At Your rebuke they fled,

At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away in alarm.

8The mountains went up; the valleys went down

To the place which You founded for them.

9You set a boundary that they may not pass over,

So that they will not return to cover the earth.

10¶He sends forth springs in the valleys;[#104:10 Lit The one who sends]

They flow between the mountains;

11They give water to every beast of the field;

The wild donkeys quench their thirst.

12Above them the birds of the heavens dwell;

They give forth their voices among the branches.

13He gives water to the mountains from His upper chambers;[#104:13 Lit Who]

The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.

14¶He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,[#104:14 Lit Who; #104:14 Or beasts]

And vegetation for man’s cultivation,

To bring forth food from the earth,

15And wine which makes man’s heart glad,

To make his face glisten more than oil,

And food which sustains man’s heart.

16The trees of Yahweh are satisfied,

The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,

17Where the birds build their nests,

The stork’s home is in the fir trees.

18¶The high mountains are for the wild goats;

The cliffs are a refuge for the shephanim.

19He made the moon for the seasons;

The sun knows the place of its setting.

20You appoint darkness so that it becomes night,

In which all the beasts of the forest creep about.

21The young lions roar to go after their prey

And to seek their food from God.

22When the sun rises they gather together

And lie down in their dens.

23Man goes forth to his work

And to his labor until evening.

24¶How numerous are Your works, O Yahweh!

In wisdom You have made them all;

The earth is full of Your possessions.

25This is the sea, great and broad,[#104:25 Or broad of dimensions ; lit broad of hands]

There the creeping things are without number,

Creatures both small and great.

26There the ships move along,

And Leviathan, which You have formed to play in it.

27¶They all wait for You

To give them their food in due season.

28You give to them, they gather it up;

You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.

29You hide Your face, they are dismayed;

You take away their spirit, they breathe their last

And return to their dust.

30You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;[#104:30 Or breath]

And You renew the face of the ground.

31¶Let the glory of Yahweh endure forever;

Let Yahweh be glad in His works;

32He looks at the earth, and it trembles;[#104:32 Lit The one who]

He touches the mountains, and they smoke.

33I will sing to Yahweh throughout my life;[#104:33 Or Let me sing]

I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

34Let my musing be pleasing to Him;

As for me, I shall be glad in Yahweh.

35Let sinners be consumed from the earth

And let the wicked be no more.

Bless Yahweh, O my soul.

Praise Yah!
