Hosea 2

The Unfaithful Wife

1Say to your brother, “Ammi,”[#Hebrew “brothers”; #Ammi means “My people”]

and to your sister, “Ruhamah.”

2Plead with your mother, plead—

Let her put away her whoring from before her,

3Lest I strip her naked

I will make her like the desert

4And I will not have pity on her children,

she who conceived them has acted shamefully,

the ones who give me my bread, my water,

6Therefore, Look!

7Then she will pursue her lovers,[#Literally “the ones who love her”]

and she will say, “I will go

8But she did not know

and who gave her silver in abundance,

9Therefore I will take again

and I will take away my wool and my flax,

10And now I will uncover her nakedness

11And I will put an end to all her mirth,

12and I will lay waste to her vines and her fig trees,[#Hebrew “vine”; #Hebrew “fig tree”]

I will make them a forest,

13I will punish her for the days of the Baals,[#Literally “To visit sins upon her;” see 1:4]

and she decked herself with her ornamental ring and jewelry,

14Therefore, Look! I am going to allure her

15From there I will give her

And there she will respond,

16And on that day—[#Literally, “And it will happen on that day”]

17I will remove the names

18I will make a covenant for them on that day,

19And I will take you as my wife forever;

20I will take you as my wife in faithfulness,[#Literally “I will take you as a wife to me”]

21On that day I will answer, declares Yahweh,[#Literally “a declaration of Yahweh]

22And the earth will answer

and they will answer Jezreel.
