Hosea 7

1when I would heal Israel,

and the corruption of Ephraim is revealed,

because they deal in falsehood,

2But they did not consider[#Literally “But they did not say to their heart”]

Now their deeds surround them;

3By their wickedness they make the king glad,

4All of them commit adultery,

whose baker has stopped from stirring the fire,

5On the day of our king, the princes

he stretched out his hand with mockers.

their heart burns within them;

in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire.

7All of them are hot as an oven,

All their kings have fallen;

8Ephraim mixes himself

Ephraim is a bread cake

9Foreigners devour his strength,[#Or “Foreigners eat”]

mold is also sprinkled upon him,

10The pride of Israel testifies against him—[#Literally “answers against his face”]

11Ephraim was like a dove,

they call to Egypt,

12Just as they go, I will cast my net

I will bring them down

13Woe to them, because they have strayed from me!

I myself would redeem them,

14They do not cry out to me from their heart,

because of grain and new wine they lacerate themselves;

15And I myself trained

16They turn, not to the Most High,[#Hebrew uncertain; the NRSV translates “to that which does not profit”; the NASB translates “but not upward”]

their officials will fall by the sword

This is their scorn
