Proverbs 14

¹The wisest of women builds her house,[#Literally “wise ones of women”]

²He who walks in uprightness fears Yahweh,

³In the mouth of a fool is the rod of pride,

⁴When there are no oxen the manger is empty,[#Literally “In there is no”]

⁵A faithful witness does not lie,

⁶A scoffer seeks wisdom, but there is none,

⁷Leave the presence of a foolish man,[#Literally “from the presence belonging to a man of foolishness”]

⁸The wisdom of the clever is understanding his ways,

⁹Fools mock the guilt offering,[#Hebrew “he mocks”]

¹⁰The heart knows the bitterness of its soul,[#Or “mind”; #Or “life,” or “inner self”]

¹¹The house of the wicked will be destroyed,

¹²There is a way that seems upright to a man,[#Literally “to the face of”]

¹³Even in laughter, a heart may be sad,

¹⁴From his ways, the perverse of heart will be satisfied,

¹⁵The simple will believe every word,

¹⁶The wise is cautious and turns from evil,

¹⁷He who is short of temper will act foolishly,[#Literally “nostril”]

¹⁸The simple are adorned with folly,

¹⁹The evil bow down before the good,

²⁰The poor is disliked even by his neighbor,

²¹He who despises his neighbor is a sinner,

²²Have they not erred, those who plan evil?

²³In all toil, there is profit,

²⁴The crown of the wise is their wealth;

²⁵He who saves lives is a witness of truth,[#Or “souls,” or “inner selves”]

²⁶In the fear of Yahweh, there is confidence of strength,

²⁷The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life,

²⁸In the multitude of people is the glory of the king,

²⁹He who is slow to anger has great understanding,

³⁰A heart of tranquility is life to the flesh,[#Or “mind”; #Or “he who heals”]

³¹He who oppresses the poor insults him who made him,

³²By his evildoing, the wicked will be overthrown,

³³In the heart of him who has understanding, wisdom rests,[#Or “mind”]

³⁴Righteousness will exalt a nation,

³⁵The favor of a king is for the servant who deals wisely,
