Isaiah 11

Isaiah 11

The Righteous Branch of Jesse

1And there shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,[#Isa 11:10; 53:2]

and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.

2The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,[#Isa 42:1; 61:1; Mt 3:16]

the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the Spirit of counsel and might,

the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord .

3He shall delight in the fear of the Lord ,

and he shall not judge by what his eyes see,

nor reprove by what his ears hear;

4but with righteousness he shall judge the poor,

and reprove with fairness for the meek of the earth.

He shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth,

and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

5Righteousness shall be the belt of his loins,

and faithfulness the belt about his waist.

6The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,

and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat,

and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together;

and a little child shall lead them.

7The cow and the bear shall graze;

their young ones shall lie down together;

and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8The nursing child shall play by the hole of the asp,

and the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.

9They shall not hurt or destroy

in all My holy mountain,

for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord ,

as the waters cover the sea.

10In that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, who shall stand as a banner to the peoples. For him shall the nations seek. And his rest shall be glorious.[#Isa 11:1; #Lk 2:32]

11In that day the Lord shall set His hand again the second time to recover the remnant of His people, who shall be left, from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.[#Mic 7:12; #11:11 Southern Egypt.; #Ge 10:22]

12He shall set up a banner for the nations,

and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel,

and gather together the dispersed of Judah

from the four corners of the earth.

13The envy also of Ephraim shall depart,

and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off;

Ephraim shall not envy Judah,

and Judah shall not harass Ephraim.

14But they shall swoop down on the slopes of the Philistines towards the west;

they shall plunder the sons of the east together;

they shall lay their hand on Edom and Moab,

and the Ammonites shall obey them.

15The Lord shall utterly destroy

the gulf of the Egyptian sea,

and with His mighty wind He shall shake His hand

over the Euphrates River,

and shall strike it into seven streams,

and make men walk over in sandals.

16There shall be a highway for the remnant of His people,[#Isa 19:23]

who will be left from Assyria,

as it was for Israel

when he came up from the land of Egypt.
