The Eternal Dwelling of God in Zion

¹Lord , remember David

And all his afflictions;

²How he swore to the Lord ,

And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:

³“Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house,

Or go up to the comfort of my bed;

⁴I will not give sleep to my eyes[#Gen. 49:24; Is. 49:26; 60:16]

Or slumber to my eyelids,

⁵Until I find a place for the Lord ,[#Prov. 6:4]

A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

⁶Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;[#1 Kin. 8:17; 1 Chr. 22:7; Ps. 26:8; Acts 7:46]

We found it in the fields of the woods.

⁷Let us go into His tabernacle;

Let us worship at His footstool.

⁸Arise, O Lord , to Your resting place,[#Ps. 5:7; 99:5]

You and the ark of Your strength.

⁹Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness,[#Ps. 78:61]

And let Your saints shout for joy.

¹⁰For Your servant David’s sake,

Do not turn away the face of Your Anointed.

¹¹The Lord has sworn in truth to David;[#Job 29:14]

He will not turn from it:

“I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body.

¹²If your sons will keep My covenant

And My testimony which I shall teach them,

Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.”

¹³For the Lord has chosen Zion;[#2 Sam. 7:12; (1 Kin. 8:25; 2 Chr. 6:16; Luke 1:69; Acts 2:30)]

He has desired it for His dwelling place:

¹⁴“This is My resting place forever;[#(Ps. 48:1, 2)]

Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.

¹⁵I will abundantly bless her provision;[#Ps. 68:16; Matt. 23:21]

I will satisfy her poor with bread.

¹⁶I will also clothe her priests with salvation,[#Ps. 147:14]

And her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

¹⁷There I will make the horn of David grow;[#1 Sam. 4:5; Hos. 11:12]

I will prepare a lamp for My Anointed.

¹⁸His enemies I will clothe with shame,[#1 Kin. 11:36; 15:4; 2 Kin. 8:19; 2 Chr. 21:7; Ps. 18:28]

But upon Himself His crown shall flourish.”
