Jeremiah’s Letter to the Exiles

1This is the open letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the rest of the elders in exile, to the priests, the prophets, and all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had deported from Jerusalem to Babylon.[#29:1 The letter (or scroll) was likely written and sent around 595 BC.; #29:1 Multiple prophets were taken into captivity, including Daniel and Ezekiel.]

2(Among the exiles were King Jeconiah, Nehushta the queen mother, the high-ranking officials, the leading men of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsmen and metalworkers.)

3Jeremiah entrusted the letter to Elasah son of Shaphan and to Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah had sent to Babylon, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. The letter read as follows:

29Now, when the priest Zephaniah had read this letter to Jeremiah,

30Yahweh said to Jeremiah,
