Job 42

Job 42

Job’s Repentance

1Then Job answered the Lord and said:

2“I know that You can do everything,[#Ge 18:14; Mt 19:26]

and that no thought can be withheld from You.

3‘Who is he who hides counsel without knowledge?’[#Job 38:2]

Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,

things too wonderful for me which I did not know.

4“ ‘Hear, and I will speak;

I will question you,

and you declare to Me.’

5I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,[#Ro 10:17]

but now my eye sees You.

6Therefore I abhor myself,[#Ezr 9:6]

and repent in dust and ashes.”

Epilogue

7And so it was, that after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right as My servant Job has.[#Job 2:11]

8And now, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job will pray for you. For him I will accept, lest I deal with you according to your folly, in that you have not spoken of Me the thing which is right like My servant Job.”[#Nu 23:1; #Job 1:5]

9So Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went and did as the Lord had commanded them; the Lord also accepted Job.

10And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job when he prayed for his friends, and also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.[#Dt 30:3; Ps 14:7; 126:1]

11Then all of his brothers, and all his sisters, and all of those who had been of acquaintance before came to Job, and they ate bread with him in his house, and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the Lord had brought upon him. Every man also gave him a piece of money and an earring of gold.[#Job 2:11; #Ge 24:22]

12So the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning, for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.[#Job 8:7; #Job 1:3]

13He had also seven sons and three daughters.[#Job 1:2]

14He called the name of the first Jemimah; and the name of the second Keziah; and the name of the third Keren-Happuch.

15In all the land, there were no women as beautiful as the daughters of Job, and their father gave them an inheritance along with their brothers.[#Nu 27:7]

16After this, Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and their sons to the fourth generation.[#Ge 15:16; Ex 34:7]

17So Job died, being old and full of days.[#Ge 15:15; 25:8]
