chapter seventeen

and travelling through Amphipolis and Apollonia, did they come to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue.

and according to his custom/habit did Paul go in to them, and in the course of three Shabbatot did he self with them argue was of the Scriptures (the Holy),

opening and proving, that the Moshiach was required to suffer and stand up from the dead, and that the this one Yehoshua, which I say you (PL) on (I preach), is the Moshiach.

and some of them have self convinced, and themselves did join to Paul and Sila; and from the fearer of heaveners Greeks a great crowd, and of the prominent women not a few.

the Judaeans however are become jealous and did take some fellows of the street-people, and gathered a crowd, and made a uproar in the city; and placing themselves around Jason's house, did they seek them to bring out before people.

and when they did them not find, did they drag out Jason and some brothers to the leaders of the city, shouting: the these people, who have stirred up the world, did also come here;

whom Jason had welcomed; and they all operate against the Caesar's laws, saying, that it is there an other king, Yehoshua.

and have furious made the crowd and the city leaders, when they did this hear.

and receiving a bail from Jason and from the others, did they them release.

and the brothers did immediately send out Paul and Sila by night to Berea; and when they did come there, did they go in in the Jewish synagogue into.

and the these (Jews) are was more noble than the (ones) in Thessalonica, because they did accept the word with all willingness, and day daily studied the Scriptures (the Holy), if it is so.

therefore did also a many of them believe, and not a few of the prominent Greek women and men.

but when the Judaeans from Thessalonica have self find out, that also in Berea is Hashem's word announced become by Paul, did they also arrive there, agitating and inciting the crowds of.

and then did the brothers immediately send out Paul to go up to the sea; and Sila (Silas) and Timothy did there remain.

and Paul's companions did him lead till Athens, and receiving an order to Sila (Silas) and Timothy, that they should come to him as to quickly as possible, did they go away.

and while Paul was waiting for them in Athens, did himself his spirit did become embittered in him, seeing how the city is full with idols.

therefore used he speak with the Jews in synagogue and with the fearer of heaveners (Greeks), and every day in the marketplace with the people, whom he did meet/find.

and also some of the Epicureans and Stoic philosophers did themselves argue with him. and some have said: what wants the this one babbler to say? others however (did say): he seems out to be a preacher of foreign g-ds—because he did announce the Good News of Yehoshua and resurrection of the dead ones.

and did him take and led away to the Areopagus, and said: (question) can we know, what for a new teaching it is the these, of which you (SG) speak?

because you (SG) bring some strange things to our ears; we want therefore know, what this should be.

and all Athenians and the foreigners, who were there dwelling, used to spend the time not with any thing else than or with saying or with hearing something new.

and Paul has himself stand up in the midst of the Areopagus and said:

men of Athens, from every way see I how you (PL) are full with religion.

because passing by and seeing your (PL) sacred things, did I also find an altar, on which was inscribed: to the unknown G-d. Behold, the these, which you (PL) know not and serve, say I you (PL) on.

the G-d, who has created the world and all, which is in it, he, who is L-rd of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples made by hand;

he is also not served by human hands, just as how he would something need, because he gives (to) everyone life and breath and all;

and did from one blood make all human peoples, to dwell on the entire surface of the earth, designating fixed times and the boundaries of their dwelling;

so that they should seek G-d, perhaps will they Him feel after and find, although he is not far from every one of us;

because in him live we and move ourselves and have an existence, just as also some of your (PL) poets have said: because an offspring of Him are we.

being therefore of G-d's parentage, proper it itself not (for us) to think, that the deity is similar to gold or silver or stone, to an image of human art and invention.

and on the times of ignorance did Hashem look away, now however commands He all people everywhere, repentance to do;

because He has fixed a day, in which He will judge the world with righteousness through a man, whom he has appointed for this; and did (to) everyone given an assurance, rousing up him from the dead.

and when they did hear of resurrection of the dead ones, did a part of themselves laugh; others however did say: we will you hear again about the this one thing.

and so did Paul go out from their midst.

some men however have self join to him, and believe, among whom (it have self) also (found) Dionysius, the Areopagite, and a woman, with the name Damaris, and others with them.
