A vision of summer fruit

¹This is what the LORD God showed me: a basket of summer fruit.

²He said, “Amos, what do you see?”

I said, “A basket of summer fruit.”

Then the LORD said to me,

“The end has come upon my people Israel;

³On that day, the people will wail the temple songs,”

“there will be many corpses,

thrown about everywhere.

Judgment on oppressors and hypocrites

⁴Hear this, you who trample on the needy and destroy

“When will the new moon

⁷The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob:

⁸Will not the land tremble on this account,

as it rises and overflows like the Nile,

⁹On that day, says the LORD God,

¹⁰I will turn your feasts into sad affairs

I will make people wear mourning clothes

I will make it like the loss of an only child,

¹¹The days are surely coming, says the LORD God,

neither a hunger for bread, nor a thirst for water,

¹²They will wander from sea to sea,

they will roam all around, seeking the LORD ’s word,

¹³On that day the beautiful young women and the young men

¹⁴Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria,

and, “As the way of Beer-sheba lives”—
