1and Yisroel is settled/dwelt in Sheetim, and this people has taken/committed harlotry be with the daughters of Moav.

2and they have summoned/invited this people to the slaughter sacrifice/zavach of their g-ds, and this people has eaten, and has self bowed to their g-ds.

3and Yisroel has self joined/attached on the Ba'al of Pe'or, and the anger of Hashem has kindled on Yisroel.

4has Hashem said to Moshe: take all chief people/heads of the people, and hang them up before Hashem against the sun, and the wrath of Hashem will self turn away from from Yisroel.

5and Moshe has said to the judges of Yisroel: kill each his men which have self joined/attached on the Ba'al of Pe'or.

6behold a man of the children of Yisroel is having come, and has brought to his brothers a woman from Midyan before the eyes of Moshe, and before the eyes of the whole assembly of the children of Yisroel, while they have wept at entrance of Tent of Meeting.

7has seen (it) Phineas the son of El'azar, the son of Aaron the kohen, and he is stood up from among the assembly, and has taken a spear in his hand;

8and he is went after the man of Yisroel in the room, and has them both pierce/puncture, the man of Yisroel, and the woman through her belly. and the plague is stopped having become from the children of Yisroel.

9and the that which are died in the plague, are having been four and twenty a thousand.

Phineas

10and Hashem has spoken to Moshe, so to say:

11Phineas the son of El'azar, the son of Aaron the kohen, has turned away my wrath from the children of Yisroel with which he has self took measures (had zeal) of for my sake among them, and I have not destroyed the children of Yisroel in my jealousy/zeal.

12therefore say: behold, I give him my covenant of peace.

13and it shall be him and his seed after him a covenant of perpetual priesthood, for the reason which he has self took measures (had zeal) of (for) his G-d's sake, and has expiate/make atonement having been on the children of Yisroel.

14and the name of the slain one man of Yisroel, which is killed having become with the woman from Midyan, is having been Zimri the son of Salu, a chieftain of a father's household by the Shim'on.

15and the name of the slain woman from Midyan woman is having been Kozbi the daughter of Tzur, which is having been a head of the peoples of a father's household in Midyan.

16and Hashem has spoken to Moshe, so to say:

17you (PL) shall oppose/harass the Midyanim, and them strike,

18for they have you (PL) detested with their ruses which they have thought up against you (PL) in the matter of Pe'or, and in the matter with Kozbi the daughter of the chieftain of Midyan, their sister which is slain having become in day of the plague, in the matter of Pe'or.

19and it is come to pass after the plague,
