From Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God.
To God’s holy people in Ephesus, who are faithful to Christ Jesus.
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
May the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ be praised! He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing from heaven.
Before the world was created, God chose us in Christ to be holy and blameless in his eyes. Because he loved us,
he chose long ago to adopt us as his children through Jesus Christ. This was what God wanted to do, and it made him happy to do it.
All these things make us want to praise the glorious grace that God has given us freely in the One he loves.
Because Jesus bled and died, our sins have been forgiven, and we’ve been set free. God has poured out his grace
on us so richly! With great wisdom and understanding,
he has shown us the mystery of his will. It expresses his desires and his purposes in Christ.
It will all happen when the time has fully come, when God brings everything in heaven and on earth together under Christ.
God chose us to belong to him, as he had decided long ago in keeping with his plan. He works everything out to fit his plan and purpose.
We were the first to put our hope in Christ, and we were chosen to bring praise to his glory.
You also came to belong to Christ when you heard the message of truth, the good news about how you could be saved. When you believed, God stamped you with an official mark, the Holy Spirit that he promised.
The Spirit is a guarantee that someday we’ll receive all that God has promised. That will happen after God sets all his people completely free. All these things will bring praise to his glory.
I’ve heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. That’s why
I haven’t stopped thanking God for you. I always remember you in my prayers.
I keep asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the wisdom and understanding that come from the Holy Spirit. That way you will get to know God better.
I also pray that you may understand more clearly. That way you’ll know the hope that God has called you to, the glorious riches that God will give his holy people,
and the great power of God that’s at work in us as believers. That power can’t be compared with anything else. It’s the same mighty strength
that God showed when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in his heavenly kingdom.
There Christ is far above all rulers and authorities, governors and kings, and every name that people call on, in this world and in the world to come.
God placed all things under Christ’s authority, and he appointed him to be the ruler over everything for the church.
The church is Christ’s body, and he fills it as he fills everything in every way.
