1Therefore we must pay greater attention to what we have heard, so that we don’t drift away.
2For if the word spoken through angels was firm, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,
3how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? It was first spoken through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
4God also confirmed their testimony by signs and wonders, by various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
5For he did not subject the world to come, about which we are speaking, to angels.
6But one has somewhere testified, saying,
“What is humanity, that you call them to mind?
Or the son of humanity, that you care for him?
7You made him a little lower than the angels.
You crowned him with glory and honor.
8You have arranged everything under his feet.”[#Psalm 8:4-6]
For in arranging everything under him, ʜᴇ left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we don’t yet see everything subjected to him.
9But we see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, that by the grace of God he might taste death on behalf of everyone.
10For it was fitting for ʜɪᴍ, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons and daughters to glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11Both the one who makes people holy and those who are holy are all from one origin, which is the reason he is not ashamed to call them siblings.
12He says,
“I will proclaim your name to my siblings.
In the middle of the congregation, I will sing your praise.”
13And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Here I am with the children God has given me.”[#Isaiah 8:18]
14Therefore since the children share flesh and blood, likewise he also partook of the same, so that through death he might abolish him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15and might set free those who were held in slavery through fear of death all their lives.
16For surely, he doesn’t help the angels, but he does help Abraham’s descendants.
17Therefore he had to be made like his siblings in every way, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.
18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
