Psalms 81

Psalms 81

1Sing aloud to God our strength;

make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

2Raise a song, sound the tambourine,[#Ex 15:20]

the pleasant lyre with the harp.

3Blow the trumpet at the New Moon,

at the full moon on our feast day.

4For this is a statute for Israel,

a decree of the God of Jacob.

5He made it a decree in Joseph

when He went throughout the land of Egypt.

I heard a language that I had not known:

6“I removed his shoulder from the burden;[#Isa 9:4; 10:27]

his hands were freed from the basket.

7You called in trouble, and I delivered you;[#Ex 2:23]

I answered you in the secret place of thunder;

I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah

8Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you.[#Ps 50:7]

O Israel, if you would listen to me!

9There shall be no strange god among you;

nor shall you bow down to any foreign god.

10I am the Lord your God,

who brought you out of the land of Egypt;

open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

11“But My people would not listen to My voice;

Israel would not submit to Me.

12So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts,[#Ac 7:42; Ro 1:24]

to walk in their own counsels.

13“Oh, that My people would listen to Me,[#Dt 5:29; Isa 48:18]

and Israel would walk in My ways!

14I would soon subdue their enemies,

and turn My hand against their adversaries.

15Those who hate the Lord would pretend submission before Him,[#Ro 1:30]

but their punishment would endure forever.

16I would feed you with the finest of the wheat,[#81:16 Hb He would feed him]

and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
