Psalm 4

Evening Prayer of Trust in God.

1Answer me when I call, God of my righteousness![#4:1 I.e., who maintains my right]

You have relieved me in my distress;

Be gracious to me and hear my prayer.

2¶You sons of man, how long will my honor be treated as an insult?[#4:2 Or glory]

How long will you love what is worthless and strive for a lie? Selah

3But know that the Lord has set apart the godly person for Himself;[#4:3 Another reading is dealt wonderfully with]

The Lord hears when I call to Him.

4¶Tremble, and do not sin;[#4:4 I.e., with anger or fear; #4:4 Or but]

Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah

5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness,[#4:5 Or righteous sacrifices]

And trust in the Lord .

6¶Many are saying, “Who will show us anything good?”

Lift up the light of Your face upon us, Lord !

7You have put joy in my heart,

More than when their grain and new wine are abundant.

8In peace I will both lie down and sleep,[#4:8 Or at the same time]

For You alone, Lord , have me dwell in safety.
