Psalms 124

Psalm 124

Thanksgiving for Israel’s Deliverance

1If it had not been the Lord who was on our side[#Ps 94.17; 129.1]

—let Israel now say—

2if it had not been the Lord who was on our side,

when our enemies attacked us,

3then they would have swallowed us up alive,[#Ps 56.1; 57.3; Prov 1.12]

when their anger was kindled against us;

4then the flood would have swept us away;[#Ps 69.2]

the torrent would have gone over us;

5then over us would have gone

the raging waters.

6Blessed be the Lord ,[#Ps 27.2]

who has not given us

as prey to their teeth.

7We have escaped like a bird[#Ps 91.3; Prov 6.5]

from the snare of the hunters;

the snare is broken,

and we have escaped.

8Our help is in the name of the Lord ,[#Gen 1.1; Ps 121.2]

who made heaven and earth.
