Psalms 138

Psalm 138

Thanksgiving and Praise

1I give you thanks, O Lord , with my whole heart;[#Ps 95.3; 96.4; 111.1; #138.1 Q mss Gk: MT lacks O]

before the gods I sing your praise;

2I bow down toward your holy temple[#1 Kings 8.29, 30; Ps 28.2; Isa 42.21]

and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,

for you have exalted your name and your word

above everything.

3On the day I called, you answered me;[#Ps 28.7; 46.1; 118.5]

you increased my strength of soul.

4All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord ,[#Ps 102.15]

for they have heard the words of your mouth.

5They shall sing of the ways of the Lord ,

for great is the glory of the Lord .

6For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly,[#Ps 113.5, 6; Prov 3.34; Isa 57.15; Jas 4.6]

but the haughty he perceives from far away.

7Though I walk in the midst of trouble,[#Ps 20.6; 23.3, 4; 71.20; Jer 51.25]

you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies;

you stretch out your hand,

and your right hand delivers me.

8The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;[#Job 10.3, 8; 14.15; Ps 27.9; 57.2; 136.1; Phil 1.6]

your steadfast love, O Lord , endures forever.

Do not forsake the work of your hands.
