Psalms 4

Psalm 4

Confident Plea for Deliverance from Enemies

1Answer me when I call, O God of my right![#Ps 17.6; 18.6, 18; 24.5; 27.7]

You gave me room when I was in distress.

Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.

2How long, you people, shall my honor suffer shame?[#Ps 31.6, 18]

How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah

3But know that the Lord has set apart the faithful for himself;[#Ps 6.8, 9; 31.23]

the Lord hears when I call to him.

4When you are disturbed, do not sin;[#Ps 33.8; 77.6; Eph 4.26; #4.4 Or are angry]

ponder it on your beds, and be silent. Selah

5Offer right sacrifices,[#Deut 33.19; Ps 37.3; 50.14]

and put your trust in the Lord .

6There are many who say, “O that we might see some good![#Num 6.26]

Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord !”

7You have put gladness in my heart[#Isa 9.3; Acts 14.17]

more than when their grain and wine abound.

8I will both lie down and sleep in peace,[#Lev 25.18; Ps 3.5]

for you alone, O Lord , make me lie down in safety.
