Psalms 41

Psalm 41

Assurance of God’s Help and a Plea for Healing

1Happy are those who consider the poor;[#Ps 82.3, 4; Prov 14.21; #41.1 Or weak]

the Lord delivers them in the day of trouble.

2The Lord protects them and keeps them alive;[#Ps 27.12; 37.22, 28]

they are called happy in the land.

You do not give them up to the will of their enemies.

3The Lord sustains them on their sickbed;[#Ps 6.6]

in their illness you heal all their infirmities.

4As for me, I said, “O Lord , be gracious to me;[#Ps 6.2; 51.4]

heal me, for I have sinned against you.”

5My enemies wonder in malice[#Ps 38.12]

when I will die and my name perish.

6And when they come to see me, they utter empty words[#Ps 12.2]

while their hearts gather mischief;

when they go out, they tell it abroad.

7All who hate me whisper together about me;[#Ps 56.5]

they imagine the worst for me.

8They think that a deadly thing has fastened on me,[#Ps 71.10, 11]

that I will not rise again from where I lie.

9Even my close friend in whom I trusted,[#Job 19.19; Ps 55.12; Jn 13.18]

who ate of my bread, has lifted the heel against me.

10But you, O Lord , be gracious to me,[#Ps 3.3]

and raise me up, that I may repay them.

11By this I know that you are pleased with me:[#Ps 25.2; 147.11]

because my enemy has not triumphed over me.

12But you have upheld me because of my integrity[#Job 36.7; Ps 37.17]

and set me in your presence forever.

13Blessed be the Lord , the God of Israel,[#Ps 106.48]

from everlasting to everlasting.
