Psalm 23

The Lord Is My Shepherd

1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.[#Ps. 78:52; 80:1; Isa. 40:11; Jer. 31:10; Ezek. 34:11, 12, 23; John 10:11; Heb. 13:20; 1 Pet. 2:25; 5:4; #Ps. 34:9, 10; Matt. 6:33]

2He makes me lie down in green pastures.[#Ezek. 34:14; John 10:9]

He leads me beside still waters.

3He restores my soul.[#Ps. 19:7]

He leads me in paths of righteousness

for his name’s sake.

4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,[#Ps. 138:7; #Job 3:5; #23:4 Or the valley of deep darkness]

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

5You prepare a table before me[#Ps. 78:19; Prov. 9:2; John 6:51]

in the presence of my enemies;

you anoint my head with oil;

my cup overflows.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me[#23:6 Or Only; #23:6 Or steadfast love]

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord

forever.
