Therefore, let us be careful that, while a promise of entering into his rest remains, none of y’all should seem to have fallen short of it.
For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they did, but the word they heard didn’t profit them, because it wasn’t united with faith by those who heard.
For we who have believed enter that rest, just as ʜᴇ has said, “As I swore in my wrath, they will never enter my rest.” And yet ʜɪꜱ works have been finished from the foundation of the world.[#Psalm 95:11]
For somewhere ʜᴇ has spoken about the seventh day in this way, “And God rested on the seventh day from all ʜɪꜱ works,”[#Genesis 2:2]
But again in that passage, “They will never enter my rest.”[#Psalm 95:11]
Therefore since it remains for some to enter the rest, and yet those who formerly had the good news preached to them failed to enter in because of disobedience,
God again ordained a certain day as “Today.” A long time later, ʜᴇ spoke through David what has already been quoted,
“Today if y’all hear ʜɪꜱ voice,
don’t harden y’all’s hearts.”
For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken later about another day.
So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
For anyone who has entered into ʜɪꜱ rest has also rested from their works, just as God did from ʜɪꜱ.
Therefore, let us strive to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. It pierces to the point of dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
No creature is hidden from ʜɪꜱ sight, but all things are naked and laid bare before the eyes of ʜɪᴍ to whom we must give an account.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold firmly to our confession.
For we don’t have a high priest who can’t empathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way like we are, yet was without sin.
Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help us in time of need.
