YHWH spoke to Moses, saying,
“You are to command the children of Israel to send away from the camp every leper, everyone who has a discharge, and whoever is unclean by a corpse.
Y’all must send away both male and female. Y’all must send them outside of the camp so that they don’t defile their camp, where I dwell.”
The children of Israel did so, and put them outside of the camp. As YHWH spoke to Moses, so the children of Israel did.
YHWH spoke to Moses, saying,
“Speak to the children of Israel: ‘When a man or woman commits any sin that humans commit, so as to trespass against YHWH, and that soul is guilty,
and must confess the sin they have done. They must make restitution for his guilt in full, add to it the fifth part of it, and give it to the person they have wronged.
But if the person has no close relative to whom restitution may be made for the guilt, the restitution belongs to YHWH and must be given to the priest, in addition to the ram of the atonement, by which atonement is to be made for him.
Every offering of all the holy things which the children of Israel present to the priest will be his.
Every one’s holy things are theirs, but whatever someone gives the priest, will be his.’”
YHWH spoke to Moses, saying,
“Speak to the children of Israel and tell them: ‘If any man’s wife goes astray and is unfaithful to him,
and a man lies with her to share seed, but this is hidden from the eyes of her husband and kept concealed, even though she is defiled (since there is no witness against her and she isn’t taken in the act),
and if the feeling of jealousy comes on him, and he is jealous of his wife and she is defiled—or if the feeling of jealousy comes on him, and he is jealous of his wife and she is not defiled;
then the man is to bring his wife to the priest and bring an offering for her: one tenth of an ephah of barley meal. He must not pour oil or frankincense on it, for it is a meal offering of jealousy, a meal offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to memory.[#5:15 1 ephah is about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel]
The priest is to bring her near and set her before YHWH.
The priest is then to take holy water in an clay jar, take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle, and put it into the water.
After the priest has the woman stand before YHWH, he is let the hair of the woman’s head go loose, and put the meal offering of memorial in her hands, which is the meal offering of jealousy. The priest is to hold the water of bitterness that brings a curse in his hand.
The priest is to require her to take an oath and tell the woman, “If no man has lain with you, and if you haven’t gone aside to uncleanness, being under your husband’s authority, be free from this water of bitterness that brings a curse.
But if you have gone astray while under your husband’s authority, and if you are defiled, and some man has besides your husband had intercourse with you—”
then the priest is to require the woman to swear with the oath of cursing, and the priest is to tell the woman, “May YHWH make you a curse and an oath among your people, when YHWH makes your womb shrivel and your body swell.
May this water that brings a curse go into your bowels, and make your body swell and your womb waste away.” Then the woman is to say, “Amen, Amen.”
“‘The priest is to write these curses in a book, and wipe them into the water of bitterness.
He will require the woman drink the water of bitterness that causes the curse, and the water that causes the curse will enter into her and become bitter.
The priest will take the meal offering of jealousy out of the woman’s hand, wave the meal offering before YHWH, and bring it to the altar.
The priest is to take a handful of the meal offering, as its memorial portion, and burn it on the altar, and afterward make the woman drink the water.
When he has made her drink the water, if she is defiled and has committed a trespass against her husband, that the water that causes the curse will enter into her and become bitter, and her body will swell, and her womb will waste away, and the woman will be a curse among her people.
But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she will be unaffected and able to conceive offspring.[#5:28 or, seed]
“‘This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, being under her husband, goes astray, and is defiled,
or when the spirit of jealousy comes on a man, and he is jealous of his wife, then he is to put the woman before YHWH, and the priest will execute on her all this law.
The man will be free from iniquity, and that woman will bear her iniquity.’”
