¹Why do the nations rage,[#Ps 46:6; Rev 17:14]

and the peoples plot in vain?

²The kings of the earth set themselves,[#Ps 48:4]

and the rulers take counsel together,

against the Lord

and against His anointed, saying,

³“Let us tear off their bonds

and cast away their ropes from us.”

⁴He who sits in the heavens laughs;[#Ps 37:13; 59:8]

the Lord ridicules them.

⁵Then He will speak to them in His wrath

and terrify them in His burning anger:

⁶“I have set My king

on Zion, My holy hill.”

⁷I will declare the decree of the Lord :

He said to me, “You are My son;

today have I begotten you.

⁸Ask of Me,

and I will give you the nations for your inheritance,

and the ends of the earth for your possession.

⁹You will break them with a rod of iron;[#Ps 89:23; Rev 12:5]

you will dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

¹⁰Now then, you kings, be wise;

be admonished, you judges of the earth.

¹¹Serve the Lord with fear;

and tremble with trepidation!

¹²Kiss the son, lest He become angry,[#1Sa 10:1; Jn 5:23]

and you perish in the way,

when His wrath is kindled but a little.

Blessed are all who seek refuge in Him.
