¹Lord, You have been our dwelling place[#Dt 33:27; Ps 71:3]

in all generations.

²Before the mountains were brought forth,[#Job 15:7]

or ever You had formed the earth and the world,

from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

³You return man to the dust

and say, “Return, O sons of men.”

⁴For a thousand years in Your sight

are like yesterday when it is past,

and like a watch in the night.

⁵You carry them away like a flood;[#Job 22:16]

they fall asleep; in the morning they are like grass that grows anew:

⁶In the morning it flourishes and grows up;

in the evening it fades and withers.

⁷For we are consumed by Your anger;[#Ps 39:11]

by Your wrath we are terrified.

⁸You have set our iniquities before You,[#Jer 16:17]

our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.

⁹For all our days pass away under Your wrath;

we finish our years like a whisper.

¹⁰The years of our life are seventy,

or even, by reason of strength, eighty;

yet their span is but toil and sorrow;

they soon pass away, and we fly away.

¹¹Who knows the power of Your anger?

For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath.

¹²So teach us to number our days,[#Ps 39:4]

that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

¹³Return, O Lord ! How long?

Have compassion on Your servants!

¹⁴Satisfy us in the early morning with Your mercy,

that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

¹⁵Make us glad for as many days as You have afflicted us,

for as many years as we have seen evil.

¹⁶Let Your work appear to Your servants,[#Ps 44:1; Hab 3:2]

and Your glory to their children.

¹⁷Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,[#Ps 27:4]

and establish the work of our hands among us;

yes, establish the work of our hands.
