Psalms 46

Psalm 46

God’s Defense of His City and People

1God is our refuge and strength,[#Deut 4.7; Ps 9.9; 14.6]

a very present help in trouble.

2Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,[#Ps 18.7; 23.4; 82.5]

though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea,

3though its waters roar and foam,[#Ps 93.3, 4]

though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Selah

4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,[#Ps 48.1, 8; Isa 8.7; 60.14]

the holy habitation of the Most High.

5God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;[#Ps 37.40; Isa 12.6; #46.5 Heb of it]

God will help it when the morning dawns.

6The nations are in an uproar; the kingdoms totter;[#Ps 2.1; 68.33; Mic 1.4]

he utters his voice; the earth melts.

7The Lord of hosts is with us;[#2 Chr 13.12; Ps 9.9]

the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

8Come, behold the works of the Lord ;[#Ps 66.5; Isa 61.4]

see what desolations he has brought on the earth.

9He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;[#Ps 76.3; Isa 2.4; Ezek 39.9]

he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

he burns the shields with fire.

10“Be still, and know that I am God![#Ps 100.3; Isa 2.11, 17]

I am exalted among the nations;

I am exalted in the earth.”

11The Lord of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
