A Call to Prayer

¹I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all humans,

²for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence.

³This is excellent and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

⁴who wants all humans to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

⁵For there is one God and one mediator between God and humans, the human Christ Jesus,

⁶who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

⁷For this, I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, not lying), a teacher of the ethnic groups in faith and truth.

Instructions for Men and Women

⁸Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and dispute.

⁹Likewise, I want the women to dress in proper clothing, with modesty and propriety, not with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing,

¹⁰but with what is appropriate for women who profess reverence for God, that is, good deeds.

¹¹A woman must learn in quietness and full submission.[#2:11 Or "A wife".]

¹²I do not allow a woman to teach or to take authority over a man, but to be in quietness.[#2:12 Or "A husband".]

¹³For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

¹⁴And Adam was not deceived. But it was the woman who was deceived and came into transgression,

¹⁵but she will be saved through the childbearing—if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with propriety.
