Timothy 2

Timothy 2

A Call to Prayer

I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all humans,

for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence.

This is excellent and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

who wants all humans to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

For there is one God and one mediator between God and humans, the human Christ Jesus,

who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

For this, I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, not lying), a teacher of the ethnic groups in faith and truth.

Instructions for Men and Women

Therefore, I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger and dispute.

Likewise, I want the women to dress in proper clothing, with modesty and propriety, not with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing,

but with what is appropriate for women who profess reverence for God, that is, good deeds.

A woman must learn in quietness and full submission.[#2:11 Or "A wife".]

I do not allow a woman to teach or to take authority over a man, but to be in quietness.[#2:12 Or "A husband".]

For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

And Adam was not deceived. But it was the woman who was deceived and came into transgression,

but she will be saved through the childbearing—if they continue in faith, love, and holiness with propriety.
