Deuteronomy 8

Deuteronomy 8

Remember YHWH’s Works

Y’all must observe to do all the commandments which I am commanding y’all today, so that y’all may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which YHWH swore to y’all’s ancestors.

You must remember all the way which YHWH your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, test you, and know what was in your heart, whether you would keep ʜɪꜱ commandments or not.

Hᴇ humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna that you and your ancestors didn’t know, in order to teach you that humans do not live by bread alone, but humans are to live by every word that proceeds from YHWH’s mouth.

For these forty years, your clothes did not grow old on you, nor did your foot swell.

You must know in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so YHWH your God disciplines you.

You must keep the commandments of YHWH your God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

For YHWH your God brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of springs, and underground water flowing into valleys and hills,

a land of wheat, barley, vines, fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey,

a land where you will eat bread without scarcity, you will not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig copper.

You will eat and be full, and you will bless YHWH your God for the good land which ʜᴇ has given you.

Beware that you do not forget YHWH your God by not keeping ʜɪꜱ commandments, ʜɪꜱ ordinances, ʜɪꜱ his statutes, which I am commanding you today.

Otherwise, when you have eaten and are full, and have built fine houses and lived in them,

and when your herds and your flocks increase, and your silver and your gold increases, and all that you have has increased,

then your heart might be lifted up in pride and you forget YHWH your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

Hᴇ led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with venomous snakes and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water. Hᴇ poured water for you out of the rock of flint.

Hᴇ fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your ancestors did not know, in order to humble you and test you and to do good for you in the end.

You may say in your heart, “My power and the strength of my hand has earned this wealth for me.”

But you must remember YHWH your God, for it is ʜᴇ who gives you power to gain wealth, in order to confirm ʜɪꜱ covenant which ʜᴇ swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

If you forget-forget YHWH your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against y’all today that y’all will perish-perish.

Like the nations that YHWH will destroy before y’all, so y’all will be destroyed, because y’all wouldn’t listen to the voice of YHWH y’all’s God.
