Psalm 16

You Will Not Abandon My Soul

1Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.[#Ps. 11:1]

2I say to the Lord , “You are my Lord;

I have no good apart from you.”

3As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,[#Ex. 19:6; Deut. 7:6; 1 Pet. 2:9]

in whom is all my delight.

4The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply;[#16:4 Or who acquire]

their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out

or take their names on my lips.

5The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;[#Ps. 73:26; 119:57; 142:5; Num. 18:20; Lam. 3:24; Deut. 32:9; Jer. 10:16; 51:19; #Ps. 23:5; 116:13]

you hold my lot.

6The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;[#Mic. 2:5]

indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

7I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;[#1 Sam. 23:9-12; 2 Sam. 5:18, 19]

in the night also my heart instructs me.

8I have set the Lord always before me;[#Acts 2:25-28; #Ps. 119:30]

because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

9Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;[#Ps. 30:12; 57:8; 108:1; Gen. 49:6; #16:9 Hebrew]

my flesh also dwells secure.

10For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,[#Job 21:13]

or let your holy one see corruption.

11You make known to me the path of life;[#Matt. 7:14]

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
