Psalm 47

God Is King over All the Earth

1Clap your hands, all peoples![#2 Kgs. 11:12; Isa. 55:12; Nah. 3:19]

Shout to God with loud songs of joy!

2For the Lord , the Most High, is to be feared,[#Ps. 66:3, 5; 68:35; Deut. 7:21]

a great king over all the earth.

3He subdued peoples under us,[#Ps. 18:47]

and nations under our feet.

4He chose our heritage for us,[#Ps. 2:8; 1 Pet. 1:4]

the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

5God has gone up with a shout,[#2 Sam. 6:15; Ps. 68:18]

the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

6Sing praises to God, sing praises!

Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

7For God is the King of all the earth;[#Zech. 14:9]

sing praises with a psalm!

8God reigns over the nations;[#Ps. 22:28; 1 Chr. 16:31]

God sits on his holy throne.

9The princes of the peoples gather[#Ps. 72:11; Isa. 49:7, 23]

as the people of the God of Abraham.

For the shields of the earth belong to God;

he is highly exalted!
