Psalm 64

Hide Me from the Wicked

1Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;[#Ps. 55:2]

preserve my life from dread of the enemy.

2Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,[#Ps. 55:14]

from the throng of evildoers,

3who whet their tongues like swords,[#Ps. 57:4]

who aim bitter words like arrows,

4shooting from ambush at the blameless,[#Ps. 10:8]

shooting at him suddenly and without fear.

5They hold fast to their evil purpose;[#Jer. 23:14; Ezek. 13:22]

they talk of laying snares secretly,

thinking, “Who can see them?”

6They search out injustice,

saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”

For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.

7But God shoots his arrow at them;[#Ps. 7:12, 13; Ps. 58:7]

they are wounded suddenly.

8They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them;[#Prov. 12:13; 18:7]

all who see them will wag their heads.

9Then all mankind fears;[#8]

they tell what God has brought about

and ponder what he has done.

10Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord[#Ps. 32:11; Job 22:19]

and take refuge in him!

Let all the upright in heart exult!
