Isaiah 15

Oracle of Judgment on Moab

1An oracle of Moab:

Because Ar is devastated in a night, Moab is destroyed;

2It has gone up to the house,[#Or “temple”]

for weeping over Nebo,

Every head is bald,

3They gird themselves with sackcloth in its streets;

4And Heshbon and Elealeh cry out,[#The Hebrew is singular]

therefore the armed ones of Moab cry out;

5My heart cries out for Moab;

For at the ascent of Luhith it goes up it with weeping;

6For the waters of Nimrim are wastelands;

the vegetation has vanished,

7Therefore they carry the abundance it has made

8For a cry for help has encircled the territory of Moab,

9For the waters of Dimon are full of blood;[#One of the Dead Sea Scrolls reads “Dibon” here]

a lion for the survivors of Moab
