Isaiah 15

Oracle of Judgment on Moab

¹An oracle of Moab:

Because Ar is devastated in a night, Moab is destroyed;

²It has gone up to the house,[#Or “temple”]

for weeping over Nebo,

Every head is bald,

³They gird themselves with sackcloth in its streets;

⁴And Heshbon and Elealeh cry out,[#The Hebrew is singular]

therefore the armed ones of Moab cry out;

⁵My heart cries out for Moab;

For at the ascent of Luhith it goes up it with weeping;

⁶For the waters of Nimrim are wastelands;

the vegetation has vanished,

⁷Therefore they carry the abundance it has made

⁸For a cry for help has encircled the territory of Moab,

⁹For the waters of Dimon are full of blood;[#One of the Dead Sea Scrolls reads “Dibon” here]
