Isaiah 56

Salvation for All Who Obey

¹Thus says Yahweh:

“Observe justice

for my salvation is close to coming,

²Happy is the man who does this,

who keeps the Sabbath so as not to profane it,

³And do not let the foreigner who joins himself to Yahweh say, “Surely Yahweh will separate me from his people.”[#Literally “son of the foreign country”]

⁴For thus says Yahweh, “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,

⁵And I will give them a monument and a name in my house and within my walls,

I will give him an everlasting name

⁶And the foreigners who join themselves to Yahweh to serve him[#Literally “sons of the foreign country”]

every one who keeps the Sabbath, so as not to profane it,

⁷I will bring them to my holy mountain;[#Literally “the mountain of my holiness”]

their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar,

⁸declares the Lord Yahweh, who gathers the scattered ones of Israel (still I will gather to him, to his gathered ones).[#Literally “declaration of”; #Or “gathering”; #Or “upon”]

Wicked Leaders

⁹All wild animals in the field, come,

¹⁰His watchmen are blind,

They are all dumb dogs;

panting, lying down,

¹¹And the dogs have a greedy appetite;[#Literally “are strong of soul”]

And they are the shepherds!

They all turn to their own way,

¹²“Come, let me take wine,

and tomorrow will be like today,
