Isaiah 60

Zion Glorified

¹“Arise, shine! For your light has come,

²For look! darkness shall cover the earth,

but Yahweh will rise on you,

³And nations shall come to your light,

⁴Lift up your eyes all around and see!

Your sons shall come from afar,

⁵Then you shall see

and your heart shall tremble

because the abundance of the sea shall fall upon you;

⁶A multitude of camels shall cover you,

All those from Sheba shall come;

⁷All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to you;

They shall present a sacrifice for favor on my altar,

⁸Who are these? They fly like a cloud,

⁹Because the coastlands wait for me,

to bring your children from afar,

for the name of Yahweh your God,

¹⁰And foreigners shall build your walls,[#Literally “sons of a foreign country”]

for in my anger I struck you,

¹¹And your gates shall continually be open,

to bring you the wealth of nations,

¹²For the nation and the kingdom that will not serve you shall perish,

¹³The glory of Lebanon shall come to you;

to glorify the place of my sanctuary,

¹⁴And the children of those who oppressed you shall come to you bending low,

And they shall call you the city of Yahweh,

¹⁵Instead of you being forsaken

I will make you an everlasting object of pride,

¹⁶And you shall suck the milk of nations,

and you shall know that I am Yahweh your Savior,

¹⁷Instead of bronze I will bring gold,

and instead of wood, bronze,

And I will appoint peace as your overseer,

¹⁸Violence shall no longer be heard in your land;

And you shall call your walls Salvation,

¹⁹The sun shall no longer be your light by day,

but Yahweh will be your everlasting light,

²⁰Your sun shall no longer go down,

for Yahweh himself will be your everlasting light,

²¹And all your people shall be righteous;

the shoot of his planting,

²²The small one shall become a tribe,

I am Yahweh; I will hasten it in its time.”
