Isaiah 35

Isaiah 35

The Return of the Redeemed to Zion

1The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad;[#Isa 51.3; 55.12]

the desert shall rejoice and blossom;

like the crocus

2it shall blossom abundantly[#v 10; Isa 25.9; 32.15; 60.13]

and rejoice with joy and shouting.

The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,

the majesty of Carmel and Sharon.

They shall see the glory of the Lord ,

the majesty of our God.]]

3Strengthen the weak hands[#Job 4.3, 4; Heb 12.12]

and make firm the feeble knees.

4Say to those who are of a fearful heart,[#Ps 145.19; Isa 1.24; 34.8]

“Be strong, do not fear!

Here is your God.

He will come with vengeance,

with terrible recompense.

He will come and save you.”

5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,[#Isa 29.18; Mt 11.5; Jn 9.6, 7]

and the ears of the deaf shall be opened;

6then the lame shall leap like a deer,[#Isa 41.18; 43.19; Mt 9.32; 15.30; Jn 5.8, 9; 7.38; Acts 3.8]

and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy.

For waters shall break forth in the wilderness

and streams in the desert;

7the burning sand shall become a pool[#Isa 34.13; 49.10]

and the thirsty ground springs of water;

the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp;

the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

8A highway shall be there,[#Isa 62.10; Jer 14.8; Mt 7.13, 14; #35.8 Q ms Gk Syr: MT A highway and a way shall be there]

and it shall be called the Holy Way;

the unclean shall not travel on it,

but it shall be for God’s people;

no traveler, not even fools, shall go astray.

9No lion shall be there,[#Isa 30.6; 34.14; 62.12]

nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it;

they shall not be found there,

but the redeemed shall walk there.

10And the ransomed of the Lord shall return[#Isa 25.8; 51.11; 65.19; Rev 7.17; 21.4]

and come to Zion with singing;

everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;

they shall obtain joy and gladness,

and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
