Psalm 151 1

Psalm 151

1I was small among my brothers[#1 Sam 16.11; 17.36–38]

and the youngest in my father’s house;

I tended my father’s sheep.

2My hands made a harp;[#1 Sam 16.23]

my fingers fashioned a lyre.

3And who will tell my Lord?[#Sir 16.20, 22]

The Lord himself; it is he who hears.

4It was he who sent his messenger[#1 Sam 16.1–11, 13; #151.4 Gk: Q ms prophet]

and took me from my father’s sheep

and anointed me with his anointing oil.

5My brothers were handsome and tall,[#1 Sam 16.7, 10]

but the Lord was not pleased with them.

6I went out to meet the foreigner,[#1 Sam 17.43; #151.6 Gk: Q ms Philistine]

and he cursed me by his idols.

7But I drew his own sword;[#1 Sam 17.51, 57]

I beheaded him and removed disgrace from the people of Israel.
