A city under attack

1A scatterer has come up against you.

2The LORD will restore the pride of Jacob,

3The shields of his warriors are red;

The ironwork of the chariots flashes like fire

4The chariots race wildly through the streets;

5He musters his officers;

6The gates of the rivers are opened;

7It is decreed: She is sent into exile, carried away,[#2.7 Heb uncertain]

while her female servants moan like doves, beating their breasts.

8Nineveh has been like a pool of water.

9Plunder silver! Plunder gold!

10Destruction and devastation;

The heart grows faint and knees buckle;

Cruel Nineveh will be destroyed

11Where is the lions’ den, the meadow of the young lions,

12The lion has torn enough prey

13Look! I am against you, proclaims the LORD of heavenly forces.

I will burn your chariots in smoke;

I will cut off your prey from the earth,
