Psalms 129

Psalm 129

Prayer for the Downfall of Israel’s Enemies

1Often have they attacked me from my youth[#Ps 88.15; 124.1; Hos 2.15]

—let Israel now say—

2often have they attacked me from my youth,[#Mt 16.18]

yet they have not prevailed against me.

3The plowers plowed on my back;

they made their furrows long.

4The Lord is righteous;[#Ps 119.137]

he has cut the cords of the wicked.

5May all who hate Zion[#Ps 71.13; Mic 4.11]

be put to shame and turned backward.

6Let them be like the grass on the housetops[#Ps 37.2]

that withers before it grows up,

7with which reapers do not fill their hands

or binders of sheaves their arms,

8while those who pass by do not say,[#Ps 118.26]

“The blessing of the Lord be upon you!

We bless you in the name of the Lord !”
