Psalms 95

Psalm 95

A Call to Worship and Obedience

1O come, let us sing to the Lord ;[#2 Sam 22.47; Ps 100.1]

let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

2Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;[#Ps 81.2; 100.4; Mic 6.6]

let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

3For the Lord is a great God[#Ps 96.4; 97.9; 135.5]

and a great King above all gods.

4In his hand are the depths of the earth;

the heights of the mountains are his also.

5The sea is his, for he made it,[#Gen 1.9, 10]

and the dry land, which his hands have formed.

6O come, let us worship and bow down;[#Ps 99.5, 9; 100.3]

let us kneel before the Lord , our Maker!

7For he is our God,[#Ps 79.13; 100.3; Heb 3.7–11]

and we are the people of his pasture

and the sheep of his hand.

O that today you would listen to his voice!

8Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,[#Ex 17.2, 7; Deut 6.16]

as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,

9when your ancestors tested me[#Ps 78.18; 1 Cor 10.9]

and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.

10For forty years I loathed that generation[#Heb 3.10, 17]

and said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray,

and they do not regard my ways.”

11Therefore in my anger I swore,[#Heb 4.3, 5]

“They shall not enter my rest.”
