Hebrews 1

Hebrews 1

God Speaks His Final Word Through His Son

1In the past, God spoke to our people a little at a time in different ways through the prophets.

2But in these last days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God made the universe through him and gave him everything as his inheritance.

3The Son is the brilliance of God’s glory and the exact likeness of God’s being. He holds everything together by his powerful word. Once he had provided the way for people to be made pure from sin, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

4This made him higher than the angels, just as much as the name he has received is superior to theirs.

The Son Is Greater Than the Angels

5After all, God never said to any of the angels,

“You are my Son,

today I have become your Father.”

Or,

“I will be his Father,

and he will be my Son.”

6Again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,

“Let all God’s angels worship him.”

7God also says this about the angels:

“God makes his angels spirits

and his servants flames of fire.”

8But about the Son he says,

“God, your throne will last for ever and ever.

You will rule your kingdom with justice and righteousness.

9You have loved what is right and hated what is wrong,

so your God has placed you above your companions

and poured the sacred oil of joy on your head.”

10He also says,

“Lord, in the beginning you placed the earth on its foundations,

and the heavens are the work of your hands.

11They will pass away, but you will remain.

They will all wear out like a piece of clothing.

12You’ll roll them up like a robe;

they’ll be changed like clothes.

But you’ll remain the same,

and your years will never end.”

13God never said to an angel,

“Sit at my right hand

until I put your enemies

under your control.”

14Aren’t all the angels spirits that God sends to serve those who will inherit salvation?
