Revelation 21

Revelation 21

The New Heaven and New Earth

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea existed no more.

I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

I heard a loud sound out of heaven saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is with humans, and ʜᴇ will dwell with them, and they will be ʜɪꜱ people, and God ʜɪᴍꜱᴇʟꜰ will be with them and be their God.

Hᴇ will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will no longer exist. Mourning, crying, and pain will no longer exist. The first things have passed away.”

The one who sits on the throne said, “Look! I am making all things new.”

Then he said, “You must write, because these words of God are faithful and true.”

He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty, I will give freely from the spring of the water of life.

To those who conquer, I will give these things. I will be their God, and they will be my children.

But for the cowardly, the unbelieving, the disgusting, the murderers, the sexually immoral, the magic drug users, the idolaters, and all the liars, their share is in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

The New Jerusalem Descends from Heaven

One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven final plagues came, and he spoke with me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.”

He carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

having the glory of God. Her radiance resembled a precious stone, like a crystal-clear jasper stone,

having a massive, high wall with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel were written on them.

There were three gates to the rising of the sun, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates toward the setting of the sun.

The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and the twelve names of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb were on them.

The one who spoke with me held a golden measuring rod to measure the city, its gates, and its walls.

The city was laid out as a square. Its length is as great as its width. He measured the city with the rod: 1,500 miles. Its length, width, and height are equal.[#21:16 or, 12,000 stadia]

Its wall is 144 cubits thick, according to human measurement, which is also the angel’s.[#21:17 144 cubits is about 65.8 meters or 216 feet]

The material of its wall was jasper. The city was pure gold resembling pure glass.

The foundations of the city’s wall were adorned with every kind of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,

the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.

The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each one of the gates was made from a single pearl. The street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

I saw no temple in it, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.

The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminates it and its lamp is the Lamb.

The ethnic groups will walk by its light. The kings of the earth bring their glory into it.

Its gates will in never be shut in the daytime, because there will be no night there.

They will bring the glory and the honor of the ethnic groups into it.

Nothing profane will ever enter it, and no one who does what is detestable or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s scroll of life.
