Psalm 46

God Is Our Fortress

1God is our refuge and strength,[#Ps. 14:6]

a very present help in trouble.

2Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,[#Ps. 18:7]

though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,

3though its waters roar and foam,[#Ps. 93:3, 4; Jer. 5:22]

though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

4There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,[#Ps. 36:8; 65:9; Isa. 8:6; 33:21; Rev. 22:1, 2; #Ps. 48:1; 87:3; Isa. 60:14]

the holy habitation of the Most High.

5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved;[#Lev. 26:12; Deut. 23:14; Isa. 12:6; Ezek. 43:7, 9; Hos. 11:9; Joel 2:27; Zeph. 3:15; Zech. 2:5, 10, 11; 8:3]

God will help her when morning dawns.

6The nations rage, the kingdoms totter;[#Ps. 2:1]

he utters his voice, the earth melts.

7The Lord of hosts is with us;[#11; 2 Chr. 13:12; 20:17; Num. 14:9]

the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

8Come, behold the works of the Lord ,[#Ps. 66:5]

how he has brought desolations on the earth.

9He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;[#Isa. 2:4; Mic. 4:3]

he breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

he burns the chariots with fire.

10“Be still, and know that I am God.[#Ex. 14:13]

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!”

11The Lord of hosts is with us;[#7]

the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
